The best part of Halloween isn't just about the pumpkins, haunted houses or dressing up. Staying in with your BFF surrounded by your favorite candy and watching scary spooky movies all night is the BEST! But let's face it; it can be overwhelming to choose the right movie considering there are so many options! 

Use this list to help you make a wise choice, then sit back and enjoy the night. These will be sure to put you in the Halloween spirit. Enjoy being spooked! 

 

1. Halloween (1978) 
Jamie Lee Curtis, Kyle Richards, Donald Pleasence


Let's start with something scary... This movie gives me chills just thinking about it.... Be sure to watch the old school classic before the new one comes out Oct 2018! On a cold Halloween night in 1963, six year old Michael Myers brutally murdered his 17-year-old sister, Judith. He was sentenced and locked away for 15 years. But on October 30, 1978, while being transferred for a court date, a 21-year-old Michael Myers steals a car and escapes Smith's Grove. 

 

2. Scream (1966)
Drew Barrymore, Rose McGowan, Courteney CoxThis mystery horror classic will have you on your toes! It manages to be funny, clever and scary, as a fright-masked knife maniac stalks high-school students in middle-class suburbia.

 

3. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) 
Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp, Johnny DeppYou'll be afraid to close your eyes after this one! The kids of Elm Street don't know it yet, but something is coming to get them! No one knows where it came from... or who it'll visit next. But whatever you do, don't fall asleep...

 

4. Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, Dianne Wiest

This is a beautiful movie, and most people I know have never seen it. If you haven't, Make sure to see it! The ending is really sad and beautiful, and it leaves you with a happy and sad feeling. 

A gentle man, with scissors for hands, is brought into a new community after living in isolation. This is a must watch! 

 

5. Warm Bodies (2013)
Jonathan Levine, Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich

Here's something you don't see every day! A romantic comedy involving zombies. This is a different take on Romeo and Juliet. 

After a highly unusual zombie saves a still-living girl from an attack, the two form a relationship that sets in motion events that might transform the entire lifeless world.

 

6. Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Miranda Richardson

This film is a mix of gothic, gory, and romance. Ichabod Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate the decapitations of 3 people with the culprit being the legendary apparition, the Headless Horseman.

 

7. Happy Death Day (2017)
Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine

Get ready to watch a good mystery! 

A college student must relive the day of her murder over and over again, in a loop that will end only when she discovers her killer's identity.

 

Now that I've mentioned all of the scarier movies, here are some great ones to watch during Halloween that won't give you nightmares! :) 

 

8. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Tim Burton, Danny Elfman, Catherine O'Hara

I was a kid when I first saw Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas, but I wasn't scared by it in the slightest! It's full of imagination and a real classic. 

Jack Skellington, king of Halloweentown, discovers Christmas Town, but his attempts to bring Christmas to his home causes confusion.

 

9. The Haunted Mansion (2003)
Eddie Murphy, Marsha Thomason, Jennifer Tilly

 

Comedy, spookiness, and fantasy all in one! 

A realtor and his wife and children are summoned to a mansion, which they soon discover is haunted, and while they attempt to escape, he learns an important lesson about the family he has neglected.

 

10. Casper (1995)
Brad Silberling, Bill Pullman, Christina Ricci

 

An all-time favorite! Watching this movie reminds me of when I was younger and about all of the good times :) 

A paranormal expert and his daughter bunk in an abandoned house populated by three mischievous ghosts and one friendly one.
